Montauk Dreamin’ on Such a Winter’s Day

cynthia rowley roxy 2.JPGIt’s pretty certain that wherever you are in America right now, you’re cold. Heck, it’s even cold in Miami. And it is currently snowing in NYC. So needless to say that while perusing Cynthia Rowley’s collection for Roxy last night, I was wistfully dreaming of far away summer days at the East Deck.

Cynthia’s a big surfer (she spent the holidays shredding waves in the Dominican) so the collaboration with Roxy is totally natural. And the results are so cute. My number one obsession is on of the softest oversized gray sweatshirts I’ve ever seen. Perfect for throwing over your bikini as the sun goes down.

Other favorites were the neoprene shorts, dresses and headbands, the perforated booties and pastel flats and the adorable sparkly tank top (which looked perfect paired with a feathered skirt from Cynthia’s runway collection.)

The collection launches first at Barneys in April, then Colette and eventually all Roxy and Cynthia Rowley stores. And in case you need a Cynthia fix right away, there’s a sample sale going on at her store right this minute.

Quote of the Day

“The casting was a little different for Season 7. They really focused on people’s portfolios much more seriously and scouted in a more professional manner. There’s a wide range of backgrounds — some designers who just came out of school, and some who’ve already had experience.” —Nina Garcia on Project Runway improving this season. Lord, we hope you’re right Nina because last season was a snoozefest. And you and Michael better not pull any disappearing acts.

Matthew’s Men

matthew williamson mens.jpgBoys, your closets are about to get a lot more colorful.

After dabbling in menswear with his H&M collaboration, Matthew Williamson is launching a capsule collection for S/S 2010. Think hand-beaded tees and cashmere and silk printed scarves.

“I wanted to start a menswear line of slim-fitting, luxury cashmere jumpers in a range of great colors. I know these jumpers will become season-less staples in my own wardrobe,” the designer tells Vogue UK. And we totally agree that these are very borrow-able pieces for the ladies.

The collection will launch at Harrods in February and then be available at Matthew Williamson boutiques and online.

So is 2010 going to turn into the year of menswear?

Justin Giunta Joins Tory Burch

justin giunta subversive necklace.jpgI’ve always had a ridiculous amount of respect for the business that Tory Burch has built and last September I was quite impressed with the groovier vibe her during her collection presentation. And now she’s gone and upped her cool factor even more by bringing on Subversive’s Justin Giunta as design director of jewelry.

Not to worry the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design winner will continue to create his amazing layered baubles for Subversive, and its lower-priced companion Deviated. Phew.

Says Tory to WWD of her new jewelry man, “Justin’s talent and handcrafted aesthetic will take us to the next level.” Yes and yes.

It will probably only take a few weeks after his first collection launches for holiday/resort before one of the necklaces becomes as ubiquitous on the streets of Manhattan as those black flats.

People We Like

The Lady Doth Spend Too Much

lady gaga yellow ombre hair.jpgIt’s not often that we have stories in common with our sibling site Going Concern (think of them as the Fashionista of the CFO/Accounting world.) Who, you ask, who could bring us together? Lady Gaga, of course. (And yes, we realize this is Gaga item #2 of the day.)

It seems that all that we love about Lady G, from the myriad costume changes to the pianos lit on fire, are the sorts of things that make accounting types go batty. Hence they named her Nightmare Client of the Day.

Turns out the tour isn’t really making any money even though every show is sold out, which you can read all about here.

Luckily, we’re not accountants so we can just hope that no one reins her in too much. We like our Gaga just fine the way she is, especially when she’s sporting bright yellow ombré hair.

A Ribbon in the Braid for Our Love

karlie hermes spring ad braid.jpgFrom Alexander Wang to Miu Miu, we’ve been obsessing about the latest incarnations of the super long braid since September.

Karlie Kloss’ S/S ad for Hermès left Kate and me just a tad breathless when we first saw it. The only thing better than a gloriously pretty braid is one with an Hermès scarf woven into it. (The warm ocean setting sure doesn’t hurt either.)

Blake Lively, please take note. This would look fantastic on you as opposed to that tight, high Emmy nightmare we’re still trying to forget.

Of course, any scarf will do but one thing is certain you will be seeing lots of this look on the two of us as soon as our hair gets a bit longer. What about you?

Janie Bryant’s Got a Book Deal

mad men janie bryant book deal.jpgYesterday’s publishing news focused on one Jane (Aldridge) while today’s brings the official announcement of another’s: Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant’s first book will be out in the fall of this year.

There’s no title yet, but she’s co-writing it with fashion writer Monica Corcoran. It will be filled with style tips for both women and men. And this is one lady we think is well worth listening to.

Here’s what the woman who makes Betty, Betty and Joanie, Joanie had to say: “I am so excited about developing this book. It has been so much fun! I really love helping people look their best through the right wardrobe, which allows them to feel great about themselves. It is all about wearing clothes that fit their character and the story they want to tell. Fashion allows each of us to express our creativity and unique style.”

Indeed, Janie. Indeed. Um, and how soon until Mad Men is back on the air? We need a Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce fix stat.

I wore it to a birthday dinner last night and got tons of compliments. I can't speak for the other two dresses that are at the pop-up but I think the quality is great for a dress that costs $39.99. I'm fairly obsessed with it and can't wait to get more pieces from the collection, especially the tights.

Actually that spelling is 100% acceptable according to Webster's which is why I spell it that way. If you live in England, there's obviously a chance you spell it with an "s" But, hey, thanks for looking out. xxA
