Fashionista Wait, Scratch That

May 13, 2008 @ 3:15pm

stylista.jpgThis morning WWD reported that ELLE's Joe Zee and Anne Slowey have started a New York City promo tour for the CW's "Fashionistas".

But there seems to be a little confusion on the Tyra front, or someone missed the memo.

Reuters now reports that the show is called Stylista, and the contestants will vie for the coveted ELLE position as well as two other prizes we haven't heard before: a year's paid lease on a Manhattan apartment and - perhaps the most covetable of all - a yearlong shopping allowance at H&M worth $100,000.

Hey, at least we don't have to share our name anymore...

Audrina: Sort of an Actress

May 13, 2008 @ 1:27pm

audrina patridge black dress.jpgHere's another fun Hills-related fact for today:

Audrina Patridge is set to be in an actual movie with actual actors and actual sets, unlike her real life on tv.

She's playing a small part in Into the Blue 2, the sequel to the beach-diving movie where Jessica Alba and Paul Walker starred in extended mini-bathing suit scenes.

Audrina's official character is that of "beach babe", and we can't wait to see if she can carry the weight of the role on her shoulders.

Next up: Scary Movie 19?

Leigh Lezark to IMG; Misshapes Parties

May 12, 2008 @ 11:54am

leigh lezark smile.jpgThis just in from IMG -

Leigh Lezark has just been signed as their newest model/cute girl/fashion favorite for "worldwide representation and endorsement".

Leigh's no stranger to the job - she's walked for House of Holland, posed for Roberto Cavalli for H&M, and she recently not-smiled for the Holiday Gap ads (not to mention her countless editorials).

According to IMG, the decision to sign her as an official face was easy - they think "she is the definition of cool and is exactly what is happening in fashion right now" plus she's really pretty.

In other Misshapes news: the trio's feting their soon-to-be-relaunched website with a party at the Tribeca Grand on June 7th, and they're also getting ready for a serious summer of DJ'ing - they're doing both H&M openings in Vancouver and Montreal in addition to touring all summer, and they're also in the midst of a "music project" with Gaultier Paris.

But back to Leigh - wouldn't she be the perfect replacement for Cory Kennedy's Urban Decay ads? We think so.

OK! actually, guest@7:49am came incredibly close - it's a makeup compact (the bird head twists off to reveal lipstick, there's a mirror and powder inside and there's even a tiny pillbox), designed by salvador dali for elgin america. it's called "bird in hand" and was designed to fit perfectly in the palm of a woman's hand. it's pretty rare. i love some of the guesses though (i'm looking at YOU, rasha!)

I wrote "Rain Day Woman," and if you read it through to the end, you'll see that is says, "At $270, they’re definitely more expensive than Marc’s plastic version from last year, but we like the details on this pair so much that we’re secretly hoping other designers (paging Steve Madden) come up with a more inexpensive version."

So while at first confusing, definitely not wrong.

But I must say, I am amazed at how well some people remember past posts. I honestly do love that.

Hi - If you really read my WYW post, you'll see that I never said I, and we, would never wear a one piece. I simply posed both sides of the argument for them to open a helpful discussion, as we always aim for.

Also, I think one of the great things about Fashionista is that we post all sorts of points of view to reflect the different people that work here, not just one person, so we end up giving lots of opinions on different topics. Otherwise, we'd be a lot more like magazine.

guest @ 11:52am,

your comment was way too thoughtful to not acknowledge, so here goes:

i can absolutely appreciate your comparison of makeup to push-up bras.

but there is another side to makeup, which i'm sure you've heard of before - makeup as a means of "readying."

i don't do this everyday anymore, (although I did up until a couple years ago,) but for me, putting on makeup is almost like a form of meditation (no giggles, please!) it's like i'm getting myself ready for whatever i have to deal with that day, thinking about it, picturing what i have to do, what might be a good/bad idea, while i very carefully apply liner, mascara, whatever else. and when i'm done, it's like all of the preparation shows through my face, and i swear i really do feel more prepared for the day once i've gone through this ritual.

but i think you are so definitely right about a certain "fakeness" it has. but i really don't see that for makeup so much as other, more permanent decisions.

my theory is, if you can't wash it off at the end of the day, you've gone too far.
