Secret Sale on the J. Crew Blazer

Oct 13, 2007 @ 8:58pm

We went to J. Crew this afternoon, to search for the Balenciagan blazer sold out on the website.

We dreamed it with a messy Luella t-shirt, straight jeans, colored flats, a scarf.

And we actually found three - just three - left hanging on the rack.

It was snug, and warm, and it'll be a great barrier between our coat and the wind this winter.

And so, even though it was too expensive, we decided to buy it (and wear it - click below to see).

"Actually," winked the salesgirl, "It's on sale. Well, not quite a sale, it's actually on this secret promotion. We don't quite know when it started, or when it'll end, but it's now $199."

Which is still too expensive for J. Crew, but still.

If you're planning on getting it, go now.

Wish I could justify spending 200 dollars on a jacket. I have actually tried it on, and while the tailoring is pretty exceptional, I just can't do it. Faran, you look adorable.

It looks a little big on you? Or is that how theyre just supposed to fit (Ive never really tried one on, not a blazer person). Or is it cause theyre always covered up by a scarf?

Ah I just went in to j.crew on friday and tried that on and they told me the same thing! but $200 still seemed steep...
does j.crew usually have these secret sales? that was the first time I'd ever heard of it.

isn't this the same thing as buying a rip off from forever 21? a knock off is a knock off is a knock off

I actually tried the jacket on the moment they came out with it for the same reason: the balenciaga resemblence. Then my boyfriend handed me some keys telling me to park his car. It I think is a tad too thick and too tailored. The greyish one is a bit more toned down than a valet I guess.

I live in Lynchburg VA; home to the J Crew distribution center and the amazing "J Crew clearance store". I was just there on Saturday and I saw at least four of these jackets and I doubt they were more than $80-$100. I eyed it from across the store but already had three dresses to purchase. Next Saturday is the huge warehouse sale that goes on every other month.
I have about seven winter J.Crew coats and I've paid no more than $20 for each of them. I also purchased the blue cashmere blazer for $40. Anyone in this area should totally check it out. It's worth it!

I tried it on when it first came out as well and I remember thinking that the tailoring wasn't that great at all. It made me look rather chunky. Also, I know that J. Crew is coming out with some other Balenciaga inspired blazers this month including one in pink so I would suggest waiting for those.

I just bought it in black at my J.Crew this weekend but was not told of any "secret sale." Have no fear - after reading this, I called my store and I'm going back tonight to get a refund for the difference. LOVE Fashionista!!!

Reminds me of prefect blazers at my alma mater. Basically you only got blazers with a trim like that if you were smart, pretty and popular. Otherwise, you got a regular looking blazer without a trim.

J.Crew rocks otherwise though (except for their slightly too big size 0Ps)

Have to agree with everyone who says this jacket is too bulky.

I tried this jacket on yesterday too. It was pretty funny—I spotted it, ran into the store, and ripped the last size 2 off the mannequin. The sales guy look at me kinda funny. I was in love but since $250 is like all my money I just couldn't justify buying it... augghhhhhhh this is going to haunt me for the rest of my life!!

The South African rugby coach was wearing the same jacket in green during the match this past weekend. Yes, very stylish, good call and totally worth the money.

Sarah in Lynchburg: Thanks for the tip! I'm originally from Lynchburg, and I've asked my mom to go check out the J. Crew warehouse store ASAP for the jacket.

Everyone else: Sarah is not exaggerating about how wonderful this place is. They often have great deals on items still full price in regular J. Crew stores and online, and super-great deals on stuff from past seasons. All my high school bathing suits were bought here at a huge discount. There's not much else to do if you're ever in Lynchburg so check it out.

Can anyone in the area help me find more information about these warehouse sales? I live in the DC area and wouldn't mind a little day trip to lynchburg if the sale is as great as it sounds. Thanks! Any info would help.
