Hollywould Goes for Guys?

Oct 01, 2007 @ 9:21am

pl486163-00lfvliv01.jpgIt's no secret that we like designer Holly Dunlap, and her aggressively girly Hollywould shoes.

We liked Holly even more when she made a big decision this year to change the entire direction of her ready-to-wear line, from too-expensive knitwear to a contemporary junior's collection on par with DKNY Jeans.

And today in Paris, we heard something that made us smile harder:

Holly's working on a line of men's shoes, including a translation of her hit ballet flat that's just for guys.

We haven't been able to confirm anything with Holly's people yet, but keep your fingers crossed for the designer / entrepreneur that she's moving into yet another lucrative area... that is, of course, if guys will pay over $400 for shoes.

Lots of men pay over $400 for shoes already. Paul Smith, Barker Black, etc., all start in the $500-$600 range, and Berluti and John Lobb start well into four figures. Even Lanvin does men's shoes in that range. It's more a question of, will men wear anything that they know is inspired by a ballet flat? And the answer, I believe, is, not any man who works at the kind of job where he can afford $400 shoes, unless he's Simon Doonan or Andre Leon Talley.

Where is the contemporary junior's collection? Their website still has what looks like overpriced knitwear, to me.

I'am a men, and I like the idea of ballet flat for men. It becomse time that mens shoes have also more models en variations like the woman shoe. Only the price of $400 is a little to high for my.

Hi there, modern men, It's about time we had something else to put our feet into. Using the women's fashion in shoes as a example gives enough basic ideas to adapt from. No high heels, 3 cm will do, but when men have nice feet, not the abonable snowman, it's nice to be able to show them in the same way that women do, and it gives that little extra to the total look of your outfit that one has.

Going a step further, there are many men wearing skirts now, no not sissies, but real men. In all soorts of skirts. Super manly skirts, and neat every day or going out skirts. Too many to mention. They too are looking for suitable shoes to accentuate a well styled combo which is not always easy, but we are learning fast. If you didn't know about men in skirts, look good around you.
They are real men, enjoying the freedom, fun and comfort. And when not wearing your manly working boots with a manly kilt, a pair of finer designer shoes are just the thing to wear with a neat skirt.

There is more to life than wearing only pure functional men's clothing. Both functionality, fun, and comfort can be found with skirts. Put on a pair of fitting shoes to go with that and you're "the man".

Its ganna be a little expensive for my taste but I'm glad somebody is actually making ballet flats for men and i hope everybody else catches on. I love ballet flats there so comfortable I don't think the design should change to much for men just no ribbons and there perfect for men already. Anyway hollywould has great designs, I know they can pull it off. Good luck.
