From Look Book to French Vogue

Cross dressing now seems more normal than Britney, thanks to Hairspray and Top Model, and the fact that Britney's insane.

But is it chicer than Doutzen in Lanvin?

Carine Roitfeld seems to think so - at least for this month.

She's paired our favorite downtown tranny, Miss Andre J, with photographer Bruce Weber and the famed makeup model Carolyn Murphy. They're posing adorably together in Montauk, recalling Andre's sparkly quote from the Look Book, "Become Your Dream."

It's a really cool cover, and we say, you go girl! Or boy. Whatever.

i am all for individuality, but the beard with women's clothes disgusts me. i am not being homophobic, i hate all beards........they are dirty! and then paired with women's clothing?

I agree with you in part.

I don't have a problem with beards per se, or men dressing in women's clothing, however a bearded man wearing women's clothing is somewhat disgusting.

The whole downside of the internet and blogs is now we are all exposed to every single opinion -- no matter how inane or trite -- on everything from every single person who has a computer. I miss the days when ordinary people only spouted their opinions face-to-face at cocktail parties and PTA meetings.

it is so telling that these fashion mags wont feature any of the amazingly beautiful black models on their covers, but they will put a cartoonish black man in drag......

Well Andre is a friend of mine and he's the best! i'm so happy for him that Carine of all people agrees :-)

Beard or not..its original! i understand you about the beard but its fashion...lets have fun and not be so restrictive :-)

yeah...i am being totally honest...it is funny but too much a cry for attention, as clever as it is.....i think of bad halloween costumes....

but i do agree that one should be themselves, but the grody-ness is my first reaction....

I think it's fab and I posted about it on my blog yesterday, Carine is just the coolest.
That being said, please don't refer to Carolyn Murphy as a "make up model", that may be her current work, but back in the day she was all over the pages of Vogue and the runways. Come on, now.

Doesn't Ms. Wintour ever get sick of French Vogue continually showing up her version of the mag?? It's starting to get embarassing how little creativity American Vogue is showing these days.

Glenn if you don't like to read opinions, don't come to a blog! I don't care that he doesn't care what I think! I gave my opinion, and take it or leave it. But this IS a comments section. I also think you wrote that because you disagreed with me. You can think that my comments are "inane and trite." Hello, I could care less if he is on the cover of French Vogue! I still don't have to like the beard!

gigi- I agree about American Vogue's need for more creativity-especially on the covers! Some of the shoots are still inspiring on the inside, but when was the last time you looked at a cover and said anything but "oh, that's pretty, yawnnn"?

I personally know & adore André, "Boo Boo".
Seeing him on a Vogue cover much less a PARIS VOGUE cover, really makes me feel happy and liberated for him, for me & for a LOT of people out there that does not fit in with the "NORMAL" crowd. So, BRAVO to Miss Carine for not being dull & boring like the "Devil" herself!

I love miss Andre!!!!!! im so happy for him. I cant imagine what it means to him. Beautiful!

but i do agree with Forreal. its funny that a drag queen has a better chance of getting into vouge than a female black model.

but whatever. you cant hate on him. im sure he was so thrilled.

This Andre J French Vogue cover is absolutely brilliant. If this were a cover done in the days of Andy Warhol we wouldn't even be having this discussion - we would simply be thanking our lucky stars that we are finally moving forward. Evolving as artists, thinkers and creatives. French Vogue is not for those of us don't want to participate in the evolution of fashion. Therefore I am always a bit shocked when I read the responses from Jane or John Doe that works at the local WAMU. Come on people open your minds, spirits and hearts. Let's move forward - together.
