Emma Watson, The New Face of Storm

Jul 13, 2007 @ 11:22am

Chanel may have told WWD that Emma Watson "chooses to wear Chanel" - and really, who wouldn't choose to wear when they can? - but it does look like Hermione's red carpet dresses have landed her in the right spot:

Ms. Watson has just signed with Storm Models, the London home of Kate Moss and Lily Cole, where desks are buzzing that the young star is indeed in talks with Chanel to do some sort of campaign.

How likely is the rumor?

We're not optimistic. Emma is a great girl, but Chanel often dresses young starlets, which fuels rumors of campaign deals, and then it all crumbles. Remember: Ashley Olsen, Lindsay Lohan, Lily Allen. And as much as Karl loves "youthful spirits" - which is exactly what he told me last year when I asked him - his favorite faces seem well into their '20s. Remember: Selma Blair, Diane Kruger, Raquel Zimmerman.

We bet Emma will land a big fragrance deal instead, but if the modeling thing doesn't work out, the Tatler cover girl shouldn't worry:

She can always fall back on her acting.

Or she can fall back on her big pile of money.

I personally think Emma Watson is going to be huge very, very soon, Chanel or not. Did anyone see her on Letterman? a-DOR-able!

Yes, but Emma has more class in her little pinky than all of the girls you named combined.

I tend to agree with Jen. She might be able to do some lovely photo eds and advertisements, but that's about it.

She's very girl-looking. Not girly per se, but her features are small, though not necessarily delicate.

I like her. She's very photogenic.

She's the next Kate Winslet (who was just about Emma's age when she got her first big roles.) Emma is great in the new HP, very spunky.

Diane Kruger is 30-yers-old and Selma Blair is 35-years-old. They look great and people often think they are still in their 20's. Even though Chanel can be worn by a sixteen year old, as well as a 60-year old society scion. Karl is savvy to use women who don't look like teeny boppers. Raquel Zimmermam is 26 and is the only model out of the whole Brazilian Wave (remember Ana Claudia Michels and Mariana Wickert) who still lands all the best shows and campaigns.

She's photogenic, but not exactly with model features, but that's the fairest thing I could say about her. She would not be able to be the next Kate Moss or Gemma Ward, she's too well-known as an actress to do that. Wait, she can't even be a great actress, because seven years of playing the same character in blockbuster films is the best recipe for typecasting.

Emma doesn't want to be Gemma Ward, but I can imagine her scoring a fragrance deal or a lip gloss campaign quite easily.

Also, I think she'll be offered quite a few roles after Harry Potter - critics seem to adore her, as do audiences.

OMG I LOVE Emma Watson!! She would be a perfect model for any designer, including Chanel. She's also an amazing actress, and I can tell she has some great roles ahead or her!!
