Don't these people have jobs? What do they do for a living that they can stand in line for an overpriced tote bag in the middle of the morning? They must have some kind of income to be able to afford these absurd objects.

nope. i ordered one months ago and got it last night. am toting it today because it really is a lot roomier than i anticipated and can carry a lot of my junk. its cute enough (and cheap enough) for a summer time fling bag.

at one point or another there will always be backlash. i can live with that. call me a sheep, i dont care. i like the fact that its cute and cheap. eventually i'll just go back to my marc lovelies and use this to tote any shopping i do or groceries instead of plastic bags.

This is a bit much now.

I went to marc by marc jacobs and they are selling canvas totes for $12!

I have the black Jacobs for Marc by Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs....

They had canvas once with pictures and the city name on the other side (Boston one was that I remembered).

this is so stupid. they're all going to end up carrying it as a "status" bag and then, when they're out shopping to show off their good taste, accumulate even more bags. Personally, if I shop at Scoop three times in a year I have enough sturdy plastic totes to last me forever.

why is the marc by marc totes any better? i thought these were retailing for $15. they're no more expensive than other tote bags.

Well, for me, the Marc by Marc tote was better cause I walked in, bought it, and walked out and was using it the next day. Also because while I was there I got a gigantic black patent bag for pool/beach use, score.

Whhhyyyy? Just get a cute canvas tote at etsy for less, and spend the time you'd spend on line, I don't know, reading a book?

Wow this is beyond sad. I thought people would be over them because of the fact that they've been out so long over in Europe. I know I'm beyond over them, not that I was ever obsessed.

And Hilary your comment FTW. I'm sure ABC will send some people over next time. haha

with the anonymous quote, i agree there was no waiting in line, i walked in then out no hype.

i spent $10 dollars more than i would at trader joes but at least i'm using it to carry produce and such back from framer's markets, etc.

as cynical as some people are, if people actually use their canvas tote ($2 - whatever ridiculous price) for what they were meant to be used for (substituting plastic bags) is it that bad then? i live in sf and by no means am i a hippy but i definitely believe heavily in recycling but what's wrong with having that balance of being a fashionista. i agree this "i'm not a plastic bag" trench is beyond crazy. You'd think they were giving away hermes birkins.

Actually that bag is made with plastic materials and is made in China with sweatshop labour. Read the backlash in the UK where the bag has been out a while. It should read "I'm a douchebag follower and twatty consumerist"

Not quite, TMM. It's been reported that the bag is synthetic, but it was made in a legal Chinese factory where the pay is actually above minimum wage...

Where has it been reported that it was made from plastic or synthetic materials? I thought it was cotton, just not organic cotton, i.e. cotton grown without chemicals and pesticides. The website says it's cotton, wouldn't they be violating some kind of truth-in-advertising law if that were false?
