Would You Wear a Logo?

May 14, 2007 @ 12:03pm

ELLE.com has a small slideshow today to announce the return of the logo.

They've pulled runway photos from Luella, Heatherette, and Commes de Garcons to illustrate the point.

But while the various t-shirts and sweaters might look cute on the catwalk, the question remains -

Would you ever actually wear something with a logo?

We think style has more to do with how you look than where you shop, but we will concede that this Vivienne Westwood t-shirt (and left) would look cute with our new Luella brocade skirt.

Also, a tangent: doesn't the Louis Vuitton model in the LV tee (below) look like Lindsay Lohan?

Ewwww...... the return of the logo?
The LV tee isn't too bad, at least the logo is worked into something else.

I think wearing a logo is a bit low-class. The only reason you'd wear a logo is to prove you can afford to buy that brand, and anything that is there to broadcast your supposed wealth is just tacky. Better to spend that money on a good pair of trousers...classier, too.

i'd like to applaud LV for cashing in not only on the hipness of logos (dreadful) but also the hipness of pregnancy with the removable pillow that appears to come with the above shirt! CLASSY!!!

I think it's all in how the 'logo' is displayed. Just straight logos or the designer's name displayed in their chosen type is just .. hideous.

But, I will stand up for those like LV who choose to manipulate their type into a different presentation. I especially enjoy when designers/clothing stores more or less inject their name into a broader design. While the design itself may be bright and loud, the actual brand is buried, or manipulated in such a way as to not be prominent.

I thought to logo never left. Just ask someone who works at A&F or Hollister.
