Vogue Paris reports today that the British designer Sophia Kokosalaki is out at Vionnet.

Sophia was hired by the French fashion house just over a year ago. Though her Spring collection for the house got lots of press, Vionnet's envisioned Fall as a sinister place where shimmering silk was the only bright spot. It was beautifully made and quite chic, but it didn't look easy to sell.

Vionnet's reigns have been taken by Marc Audibet, the designer best known for infusing Lycra and stretch fabrics into the industry. He's credited with helping Prada rebound in the '90s. More recently, he worked with Salvatore Ferragamo on ready-to-wear collections. Where he takes the house is anyone's guess, but we hope his Lycra background will lead him to make a band-aid dress or two.

Meanwhile, Sophia is expected to continue with her own line, which we like a lot better. There are also Target rumors for next year...

Better off I say! I have followed her career this past year and I love her work. I would absolutely die if she designed for Target because then I could afford it!

Marc Audibet is so talented!!! What an incredible choice!!! His last collections for Ferragamo were outstanding. Sophia understood nothing of Vionnet... She made awful Grès dresses!!!
