The White Dress: A Sane Alternative

Fact: that white dress by Kate Moss for Top Shop looked great on Irina.

Fact: that white dress by Kate Moss for Top Shop looked awkward on Selma Blair, despite her intrinsic style and obvious loveliness.

Fact: you’ve accepted the reality that this dress probably (read: definitely) doesn’t work on normal girls, but still can’t give up the desire for something white for the summer.

Although we maintain that wearing white is a death sentence for anyone planning on eating, drinking, and maintaining composure on a date, we’ve found a few options for those of you who can’t be swayed.

If they displace the toga (our new nickname for the dress at left), we’ve done our job.

I think the big difference between Irina and Selma in this dress is that Irina is standing still, styled in a studio, and Selma is walking down the street. It just seems like one of those dresses that looks great on a mannequin and horrible on an actual, moving person.

But, ooooh, I love that urban dress.

The dress looks fantastic on Irina, obviously, but on Selma it looks almost as if its constructed out of - dare I say it - toilet paper.
Maybe it's the difference in lighting?

It doesn't seem to lay right on Selma, maybe it's too big? Seems to be falling at the shoulder and not suffocating in the stomach.
