We’ve been asking Valentine and Olga Rei if they were behind Socialite Rank for months.

Each time, they swore it wasn’t true.

Each time, we believed them a little bit more.

The Socialites Played Along
“Socialites would contact us at our anonymous Gmail address all the time! The emails we reprinted on the site were forwarded to us by socialites… The info we had came from them… Everything.” — Olga

Patrick McMullan Guessed First
“He came up to us at a party a while ago and said, I know you’re behind Socialite Rank and I think it’s fantastic! Let me take a lot of pictures of you!” — Valentine

They’re Not Stalkers
“People who read the site thought whomever was behind it was obsessed with socialites. But we’re not at all! We think the socialites are wonderful but we don’t have, like, pictures of them on the walls. To us, it was like an art project.” — Olga

It Might Be a TV Show
“We’ve gotten the strangest phone calls from producers… like from people who work with Tyra Banks. We will see what happens.” — Valentine

It Had an Unlikely Inspiration
“The Imaginary Socialite is the root of all evil! When you put us on your blog, Olga started reading it and had the idea for our site. Why do you think it was in WordPress format?” —Valentine (aww)

Nobody Knew. Really.
“It was odd watching socialites point fingers at each other. That’s when we realized we could stay anonymous forever. We chose to Out ourselves because we think New York is a wonderful magazine and we only wanted to do the site for a year. We were really bored with it.” — Olga
