Phillip Lim for Uniqlo, Phillip Lim At Uniqlo

Phillip Lim Plaid Dress.jpg
There's a line halfway down the block for Phillip Lim's Uniqlo designs, which hit stores today. Lines are always a little humiliating, and surely you have better things to do than stand between Prince and Spring St. looking bewildered, but here's why it might be worth it to go:

The actual Phillip Lim is standing very patiently by his collection, watching shoppers carefully select their pieces, and smiling shyly when anyone recognizes him.

The store was shut from 9 - 11 this morning so fashion editors could buy their clothes first - we're especially grateful to Seventeen accessories editor Tina Langley, who walked us through the whole collection and picked out her favorites for us! - but now everyone who arrives can have a chance at the collection.

So far, the fastest selling dress is the plaid jumper, but there's also a take on the famous rosette dress and - our pick - a belted white linen shift that's easy to dress up or down.

The pieces we bought are below; we got them for just over $200... and we don't anticipate them to last through tomorrow. The line was intense.

Lucky you! And lucky New Yorkers! We don't have Uniqlo in the West Coast. I like the cream dress too.

damn that stuff is cute.

i have been lookin forward to this collection for months now - even going in uniqlo 2 days ago to confirm the debut date was today -- and yet, i still forgot all about it.

don't you think that after all the 'capsule' collection experiences the stores would learn, by now, to have lots and lots to sell over a period of time? i'm thinking i'll show up sometime next week and all the new stock and old returns will be there for me to feast on!

wishful thinking? oh yes - and everything DOES run huge there!

I was just in Opening Ceremony in LA, and I must say, they have an unfortunate surplus of Kate Moss for Top Shop. That stuff is going to be slashed soon. They also have some of the way too unheralded Celia Birtwell for Top Shop which is beautiful in person. Makes Kate's fabrics and patterns look very jcp.

i got the last pair of navy high-waist shorts at lunch and i love them!!!!

all of the stronger pieces (linen dresses) were gone by noon but there was tons of the jersey pieces and the cute-on-the-rack-but-not-on-the-body plaid paperbag-waist skirt.

Sad- was hoping since this capsule didn't get the hype of an H&M/Target/Topshop collaboration it wouldn't be mobbed- there goes my plan to sneak down to soho after work..

just got back from the store (was on my way to get mcdonald's for lunch and got sidetracked by the downtown 6 train instead..)

they have a bunch of stuff - and no crazy lines, crowds, mean girls, ect.

i thought it was pretty good quality! the jersey is layered, the cotton plaid is soft and smooth, the linen is lined..

didn't buy anything though!

if you want more info of stock just ask..

Oh was so excited to try on the Philip Lim stuff today but was sadly disappointed. I was hoping to fall in love with the plaid dress but when I tried it on it just fit really weird. The plain t-shirt dresses are sooo comfy but kinda overpriced.

I went over to Uniqlo after reading this post (around 2:30) in search of that cute white dress. Only had size M left (I'm normally a 4 in dresses...it's a bit big). So cute I had to buy it. Maybe someone will return an S or XS and I can exchange it. Love the citizen journalism aspect of this post--no line when I was there, though. All sales girls laughed when I asked if they had the dress in anything smaller. Oh, and I tried on a cute Alice Lim dress, off white tank dress, size XS but waaaayy too boxy. Very cute on the hanger, though. Same sort of material as white dress above.

The line doesn't run huge--I'm a tall size 6 and couldn't get out of the medium belted dress without a struggle (it's tight on too). My size 2 friend had the same problem with the XS. We passed on them because they were so small.
The plaid dress runs true to size as it is supposed to be big, but the back is narrow. The t-shirt dresses run huge, the skirts are true to size (I'm a 6 in Phillip Lim's skirts and an 8 in this one). I got the bow dress which runs a little large, but not much seeing as it goes in at the bottom. I though larger was better than small (can wear it with a sweater underneath in the fall as well as without in summer) so I got a Medium.

Despite the frustration of seeing fashion editors buy while we waited in line, Uniqlo did well with the crowd. They only let people in ten at a time at first which rewarded people who were in line for longer and also stopped the chaos and panic that leads to binge purchasing. This way, more people seemed to get what they want. They also continued to hand out the muffins and juices that they'd had for the fashion editors. Still, it seemed like the bow and tie waist dress had all gone by late afternoon.

Also, it's all crumpled because most of the pieces are linen--it's the fabric surface, although the creasing of the tie waist dress put me off (along with its odd sizing).

And Phillip Lim was really nice and signed tags.

i stopped by today and picked up one of the tshirt dresses. wore it out and i felt like people were noticing the dress--either because they liked it, or because it looks like i just woke up, threw on a tshirt and forgot to wear pants. either way, the bf likes it and it's super comfortable and the material is nice.
