Chanel Bracelet Invasion

Last night's Chanel party for the new Biarritz collection yielded sugar laced champagne and a sneak peek at this new accessory: a carved black bracelet, made of resin, and sporting a quote from Coco Chanel herself.

The bangle retails for about $600 and hasn't hit Chanel boutiques yet, although a certain Conde Nast staffer wore hers to the party last night! As for the rest of us, we were relegated to the waiting list - yes, the plastic bracelet with words scrawled all over it now has a waiting list.

Have a look at it and let us know - doesn't it remind you of something?

That looks exactly like the real Jessica bangles! Chanel stole her idea! At least you were funny about it.

It is such a blatent knockoff of such a cool bracelet. I own the real thing made of mammoth tusk NOT plastic. Girls, please don't wear these instead go to Barneys and get the real thing by Jessica Kagan Cushman!

Why does everyone think that Chanel knocked off the idea? Jessica's bracelets came out recently. Who knows how long Chanel has been thinking of this? Plus it's not like it's that great of an idea that no one would think of it also.

sad- i've had my jessica bracelet for a long time and am so bothered by this "trend" of knocking them off! at least the jessica bracelets have a much cooler history (mammoth tusk and scrimshaw) and such unique/funny/creative quotes..

What I find so ironic is that Karl Lagerfeld was peeved that Courtney Love wore a Chanel knock off. Who knows who knocked off who. Everyone knocks off everyone in this business. Marc Jacobs knocks off designs from 50-60 years ago. I still wouldn't pay Chanel prices for this bracelet, even though I love Chanel, because I could have the true original and buy a vintage bangle. it might not have pretty writing on it, but it would have excellent craftsmanship and be truly unique.

I love the scrimshaw thing, but people have been writing on their wrists & bracelets forever. Didn't you all have slap bracelets with writing on them?

Anyway, I like my own handmade one better anyway. Thanks for the idea, Faran.
